CAN YOU GIVE US YOUR TIME?

Volunteers are the lifeblood of our club. Without them we simply could not continue.

Volunteers fill various positions throughout our club many of them are parents / grandparents of our young athletes. Others are former athletes who may not be able to train anymore but still want to stay involved in athletics. Others simply have a keen interest in coaching and want to see how far they can take our athletes.

What ever your reason, we'd love to hear from you.

See below for the various ways which you can give us your time and use the contact form at the bottom of this page to let us know if you can help.

Alternatively, If you already come to the club regularly, speak to one of our committee members or coaches.

Coaching

Coaches and Coaching Assistants are a vital part of our club. If you can assist in a coaching capacity please let us know. If you can commit to 4 hours per week over two sessions the club will pay for your coaching qualifications.

UKA Coaching Assistant (Level 1)

Time Commitment – 4 hours per week, over 2 evening training sessions
You will always be alongside one of our UK Athletics Coaches and you will assist them with the delivery of training sessions.

UKA Athletics Coach (Level 2)

Time Commitment – Minimum of 4 hours per week delivering training sessions plus time to prepare sessions.

After a while you can further your coaching education to Level 3 or event specialisations. This can be discussed with the coaching team and committee.

Officiating

Larkhall YMCA Harriers regularly take part in open competitions and a condition of entry is that we provide a certain number of volunteers for the event. This can be something as simple as raking a sandpit for the long jump which requires no training or, with the proper training, being an official time keeper. If you can commit to regularly helping us the club will pay for your officials training.

Officials Training

Time Commitment  - Flexible, after your training course you are required to gain experience at least 2 events in 12 months to receive your qualification. After that we would like you to volunteer on behalf of the club as often as you can but at least 2 events per year.

Some of the rolls you can train in are; Time Keeping, Starter / Starter's Assistant, Photo Finish, Track, Field & Endurance.

Training Supervision

Probably the easiest but arguably one of the most important things you could do. When our athletes are out running in the streets of Larkhall we require people to be at certain points along the route. You can do this on foot, bike or even just in your car. This allows us to keep an eye on our athletes and where necessary assist them crossing junctions, or accompany them back to the club if they are struggling.

This is an ideal easy job for parents or guardians especially if you usually spend your time watching training or waiting in your car!

If you can assist with supervising our athletes safety and security when training please let the coaches know at the start of training or in our private WhatsApp Group.

Committee

Our Committee oversee the running of the club and come together to make important decisions on how it is run. If you become a paid up member (competing or otherwise) you may stand for election in any of our committee positions.

Positions include; President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Social Convener, Welfare Officers, Social Media Officer and so on.
